First Activity For Arrasheed Dreams+Teams
Dreams +Teams is about developing Young Leaders and global citizens through sport the arts and international awareness. Young people in more than forty countries are currently taking part in Dreams + Teams.
Anybody taking part in Dreams+Teams at any level should be constantly challenging their assumptions, beliefs and behaviour relating to sport leadership and cross-cultural awareness. They should think about other cultures and other ways of doing things , especially how to include people who are different from them.
The programme sponsors in the UK are the Youth Sport Trust and the British Council, working in partnership .Dreams + Teams shares the philosophy and principles adopted by these two organization ,which include a commitment to diversity , equity and inclusion, and cultural awareness. Outside the UK, Dream +Teams is run in partnership between the british council and local partner organizations, typically schools.
Dreams + Teams uses the global language and diversity of sport and the arts to develop leadership skills, active citizenship and international awareness and partnership. Through Dreams + Teams , Young Leaders around the world will learn how to lead other young people using sport and the arts , and have fun along the way. They will also be encouraged to become more aware of other people’s cultures. They will be challenged to make a difference by ‘thinking globally, acting locally’. The establishment of Dreams + Teams clubs will encourage Young Leaders to utilise their new skills to make an impact, first in their schools, then in the wider community and ,finally ,internationally.
Dreams + Teams is different from other sport leadership programmes because of its international linking and cross-cultural dimension.
Sport provides a platform for young people in different countries to explore together issues relating the fair play, equity, cultural diversity, inclusion, religion, ethics, global communication and many others. Through the establishment of international links, Young Leaders in each participating country will form a global team, working towards celebration events, perhaps global sports and arts festivals held regularly.
Specialist sports colleges in the UK, together with their partner schools, will be supported to develop global citizenship programmes to form the first hub of international links.. The aim is to build sustainable international links between their school/family of school and local partners in their ‘partner’ Dreams + Teams country.
